LARRY GATLIN needs no introduction but here is some information about this legendary artist:
Grammy Award winning entertainer and country music icon Larry Gatlin will be the featured artist at Americanaville’s 3rd Annual Christmas Show at the Iron & Oak Event Center in Livingston, Tennessee on Tuesday night, December 12. A Special Evening with Larry Gatlin, will feature a mixture of his hits along with Christmas favorites.
His hit songs include Broken Lady, All the Gold in California, Houston (Means I’m One Day Closer To You), I’ve Done Enough Dying Today, I Just Wish You Were Someone I Loved, She Used To Be Somebody’s Baby and Night Time Magic among others.
A member of the Grand Ole Opry for over 45 years, he has won many awards including the 3 Academy of Country Music Awards including Single of the Year (All the Gold in California) , Album of the Year (Straight Ahead) as well as Male Vocalist of the Year. He also won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year (Broken Lady).
He also was the lead in the Broadway musical The Will Rogers Follies which won a Tony Award.
On the strength of his songwriting talents, he became known throughout the Nashville music industry. In addition to writing every Gatlin Brothers’ hit ever recorded, His massive song catalog include songs recorded by Elvis Presley, Glen Campbell, Barbra Streisand, Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Barry Gibb, Charlie Rich, Ray Price, Tom Jones, Roy Orbison, Johnny Mathis, Dottie West and many more. His 32 self- penned Top 40 Billboard songs ranks him 4th all time in that category. He was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2019.
Born in 1948 in Seminole, Texas, he is the oldest of the three Gatlin brothers, and by age six, he was already accompanying his younger brothers in singing at family and church events.
In high school he was a star quarterback for Odessa (Texas) High School and attended the University of Houston on a football scholarship where he was a wide receiver.
From 1976 to 1992, the Gatlin Brothers toured extensively throughout the entire world. They racked up hit after hit and banked some of the most prestigious awards in the industry. They have performed at famed venues, including the White House, the President Reagan Library, Air Force One, Ford’s Theater, Camp David, President Bush’s 80th Birthday Party, The Lincoln Theater, with the New York Pops Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, Houston Symphony, Madison Square Garden Venetian Room, West Point, Dollywood, The Mall in D.C. for July 4th, the Greek Theater, Billy Bob’s, Radio City Music Hall, Disney World and Wembley Music Festival to name a few.
The brothers have also proudly entertained our U.S. Troops in Kuwait, Qatar, UAE, Germany and at many military bases in the United States as well.
He penned his autobiography, All the Gold in California and Other Places in 2003 and continues touring on a regular basis. He is currently doing a Christmas Tour.
Larry resides in Nashville with the love of his life, Janis, to whom he’s been married for more than 40 years. They are the proud parents of two children, Josh and Kristin. He is also a proud grandfather, lovingly known as “Papa.”
